Professional maintenance handles the deep work — coil and blower cleaning, refrigerant checks, electrical inspection. But a few easy habits between visits keep your mini split running its best and stretch the time between repairs.
1. Rinse the filters every 2–4 weeks
Pop off the front panel, lift out the mesh filters, rinse with lukewarm water, let them fully dry, and reinstall. In peak season, do this more often. Clean filters = better airflow and lower bills.
2. Run Fan mode to dry the coil
After a long cooling session, switch to Fan mode for 15–30 minutes. Drying the coil discourages the mold and biofilm that cause musty smells.
3. Keep the outdoor unit clear
Trim plants back at least two feet, clear leaves and debris, and gently rinse off salt and dust with a hose. Never pressure-wash the fins — they bend easily.
4. Watch the condensate drain
If you see water pooling near the indoor head or outdoor drain, the line may be clogging. Catch it early before it leaks onto floors or walls.
5. Listen and smell
New rattles, buzzing, weak airflow or musty odors are early warnings. Note them and mention them at your next service — small issues are cheap to fix early.
Stay on top of these and book your twice-yearly tune-ups, and your system will reward you with years of clean, efficient comfort.
